Motherland Monument

Tucked away along the back streets of Old Port Royal, the Motherland Monument stands as one of the few memorials shining a light on Beaufort’s slave trading past.

The inscription on the monument reads:

“Dedicated to those who were taken from the Motherland. Know the teachings. Respect the elders. Keep the unity. Maintain the faith.”
