Mather’s School

Mather's School Marker (2)

Originally from New England, Rachel C. Mather called 701 Greene Street her home in Beaufort.  She was founder of Mather’s School, a school funded and operated by the Woman’s American Baptist Home Mission Society. It operated as a Normal school for black girls. The school closed in 1968 and was operated by teacher and missionary Rachel Crane Mather.
